Let’s HIIT it for the Heart!

So, we have finished our food challenge and might be thinking about the Cleanse, but is there more we can be doing? Is there something else we should be more mindful of everyday? Remember, my goal this year is to be more “mindful”.
“This month being Heart Health Month, got me thinking; How often do I really consider my heart when choosing foods or exercise? The answer is not often. I always think about calories in food and or how toned can I get from exercise. But I need to ask myself, “what am I doing for my heart?”
 Heart disease is the number one killer of women. I know that’s a well known fact but take a second to really think about that. It kills more than any type of cancer. 1 in 3 women die every 80 seconds from heart disease or stroke. Here is another staggering fact; 80% of women affected with heart disease could have prevented it with simple lifestyle changes; exercise and diet. That fact spoke to me….80%…wow!

If you have not had a chance to try our Mind Over Matter Method; M3 barre classes, come try them on Sunday. We have classes beyond just barre; our Mixed Level M3 Barre gently lifts the heart rate as we delve into the different segments of class and then gently lowers it with stretches in between.  This elevation and lowering helps strengthen the heart. Another class we offer is our Barre Interval class. This is a HIIT class….high intensity interval training class. This is like the superfood of fitness! HIIT is the best thing you can do for your heart. HIIT is defined as any intense activity followed by a fixed less-intense activity or complete rest. These intense bursts of activity bring your heart into an anaerobic zone, that awesome place where you can’t breathe and feel like your heart is beating so hard that’s it’s going to jump out of your chest. This anaerobic zone burns more fat than muscle, revs up your metabolism and is super efficient. Studies show that 15 minutes of HIIT burns more calories than running on a treadmill for an hour.  Come try our Barre Interval class at the Healthy Heart Fair. We will have breaks in between so you can learn more about heart health.  Starting in March, we will be offering Interval class once a month at our NEW “WildCard” time slots on Wednesday evening and Sundays.  If Spring were to ever arrive, we will also begin our “Barre Out” class, another heart-conscious class, where we get our heart rate up buy running fast for 30 seconds followed by 1 min and 30 seconds of walking.   Check out our Spring Schedule coming soon.
