Organic, Fresh, Local Food Stores
The sun is shining and it makes me feel so happy! With this gorgeous weather, it so easy to throw things on the grill and have a quick healthy meal. But the question was, when I first moved here to Northwest Indiana, “where do I get fresh organic ingredients?” I had to do some digging around to find health food stores.
“I have found there are some great resources to find your organic produce nearby.”
Following are a few of my favorites, but if you have any of your favorites, please feel free to give them a shout out in the comment section or on social media. In our small community, we do all have to support each other, right?
At our Wellness Open House back in January, we were fortunate to have our wonderful neighbors Molly Bea’s and Nature’s Cupboard aboard with some samples. Luckily, they are right next door. At Molly Bea’s, I get my bulk food items such as nuts and grains. At Nature’s Cupboard, I can now get my produce along with fresh meats and all things healthy. Nature’s Cupboard has moved its Michigan City location and now carries even a bigger produce section of organic foods. I can’t wait to check it out! Also, if you want a coop, they have one, so sign up. Here in Chesterton, we also have L.O.A.F, “local organic affordable foods”. They just had their first anniversary and have you haven’t check them out, just plan to take a look at what they have. I love how they support the local community.
Also, every Saturday after class, my family always hits the European market here in Chesterton. We have so many beautiful foods to choose from with organic veggies, herbs, meats and cheeses. It is a regular Saturday routine to pick out our vegetables for the week. They are open from 8-2 every Saturday through October. If have not gone, definitely make it part of your Saturday routine along with coming to your favorite barre studio 🙂 And not too far in Valpo, they have the Farmer’s market on Tuesdays. It’s a super fun outing with the family to hit the splash pad too and again get your fresh local ingredients.
Also, in Valpo, is my favorite place, not a health food store, but still had to be mentioned. Roots Juice Bar serves organic cold pressed juice and healthy gluten free options. If you haven’t seen yet, they have expanded, longer hours and more space for sitting and eating. Also in Valpo and recently expanded is Sunrise, with all great health related items as well.
This is just a reminder that healthy options are all around you. It is up to you to seek them out and make the right choices for your health and wellbeing. We are almost halfway through our Burn at the Barre Summer Challenge, and now it’s time to finish off strong. No matter if you have been coming, or not as much as you have wanted, it is OK!! Go ahead and set your goals to come to take class and find your healthy food options. Add fresh vegetables to your meals and if you need any guidance, I highly recommend looking at Mindful Nourishment and everything they have to offer. If all this is new to you, definitely start there. They have challenges workshops and cleanses.
Here at Mind Over Matter Studio, we are here to help you “be your better self”, offering you barre & beyond. And you’re lucky that we have so many wonderful women who come take class at the studio that have more knowledge for us to live healthier. If you would like to share your wisdom, guidance and business with the rest of us we, would love to hear it.
Cheers to living a healthy lifestyle.
Offering you Barre & Beyond!
All M.O.M.s Love,
Orlee
