“Have an Active, Healthy Holiday” — Involve your Children
Let’s make this holiday season less about food, cookies and presents and more about spending the time together as a family, as an active, healthy family. It’s important for your health but also important for your children’s health. Children learn by example so let’s provide our children with a healthy lifestyle.
Here are Orlee’s tips on how to stay active this holiday season not just for you but for your family;
1. Keep your regular routine. If you work out 3 times a week, keep it as best you can this holiday season. Your children will see how important your health is and realize it is important to take care of our bodies. They learn by example.
2. Include your children. Find something active for them to do. Even search for classes together to do together.
If no classes, plan outdoor activities such as hiking and walks with dog.
3. Add “activity” to your family room. Turn the TV off and have a dance party instead of lounging. Have a yoga mat in the corner and stretch together. Get a roller and roll together.
4. Include your family in all the chores. Chores should not be looked at as a “chore” but rather something fun. Kids can help with laundry and make it fun; such as how fast can you make the bed and just turn that music on while folding laundry together.
5. Get your finally involved with meal planning and holiday cooking. Look up recipes together and go to the grocery store together to pick out fresh real food. Your children can help in the kitchen by washing veggies, reading the recipe, stirring and mixing.
These are my tips but every family is different. Find ways to work together on starting active this holiday season and into the new year. Start making those changes right now. I involve my children in class planning, (thank you Lana for your “conditioning” help. They know that Daddy must work out too. It is part of our daily routine and we strive to maintain it. Gove the gift of health. We have gift certificates at 10% off for $100 gift certificate. We have student discounts so you can bring your student to class with you. We have added Munchkin Care over the winter break as well.
Let’s stay active not only for ourselves but our families.
