Ten Barre + Beyond Ways to Reduce Stress During Your Work Day

We are so honored to have been invited to the Porter County Public Library System Staff Development Day to speak to their entire staff! Yikes! Why Barre + Beyond? Why us? Well, we are the experts in Barre. That is number one! We were the first, the only and the best! Number two, we foster a positive environment. Number three, we know how to work with anyone and everyone. No matter who you are, we have something for you to be your better self.  Our goal tomorrow is to help individuals throughout their workday; to give them something to do to be better and more productive. Today, I wanted to share with you what we will share with these 100 people; Ways to Help Reduce Stress During Your Workday. Follow these ten the Barre + Beyond steps, and of course, make time to come into the studio 3-4 times a week.

 

  1. Park as far away as possible from the front door and take a brisk, meaningful walk into work with a smile on your face. (If there are steps, take them and not the elevator!)

 

  1. At your desk, before you sit down, place your hands on the desk, walk back and stretch forward. Hold for 10 seconds with deep breaths. (Before you check your emails or any messages).

 

  1. At 10:00 or a few hours from when you came to work…set an alarm, stand up, and do some “circles”; head, shoulders, hips, ankles. 4 times each direction.

 

  1. Before lunch, stand at your desk. It’s Plank Time! We call it MIND OVER MATTER MINUTE PLANK! (at your desk, chair, wall, floor) Hold 30 seconds- or a minute!

 

  1. Eat lunch and take a five minute, brisk walk (Smile + Listen to some of your favorite music) Be mindful of what foods can make you sleepy or irritable. (If time allows, come to our quick 35-minute lunch express class from 11:15-11:50.)

 

  1. After lunch, back at your desk, stand on one leg and do one minute of press backs to work your seat. Switch legs. When you sit back down to work, cross one ankle over the other leg to stretch the seat out. Repeat other side.

 

  1. Two hours after lunch, stand up and do high releve plié or flat foot squats/plie. Feel the burn and love it! One minute! (Add a calf stretch at end)

 

  1. Before getting up to leave, circle your ankles, hips, shoulders and head while seated. (4 in each direction)

 

 

  1. At end of the day, one more MIND OVER MATTER PLANK! (30 seconds or one minute)

 

  1. Take that cheerful walk back to your car and stop at one of our

evening classes! You will be glad you started the

Barre + Beyond Journey!
