A More Mindful You in 2016

Alright ladies, it’s the second week of the New Year. How many of us are still sticking to our New Year’s resolutions? Studies show that we only stick to our resolutions for 8 days. 8 days that’s it. 8 days we give ourselves for become a “new and improved” woman. I don’t know about you all, but I need more than 8 days to reach my goals. This is why I have begun to set themes for my year instead of a realistic or unrealistic goal. My theme this year is becoming a more mindful person; spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Right before the holiday, I read a book that encouraged me to become extremely mindful of all that I was consuming. Now, I have always been a fairly healthy eater with pretty decent portion size so I figured what do I really need to fix? Well, I kicked of the holiday season cutting out all process, sugar, wheat, and caffeine, and truly focused on being mindful of every single thing that went into my mouth. Yes, this did require some planning, and not waiting till I was absolutely starving so that the only option I had left was rifling through the fridge to find the first thing I could eat. What I was left with at the end of this two week “cleanse” was a more energized, focused, patient, and non-bloated version of myself. I know what you’re thinking, this is going to be too expensive, too time consuming, and too challenging, but when I started this I just kept telling myself this was two weeks of being more mindful. That’s it. What do you have to lose other than at the end of two weeks feeling healthy, not guilty about everything that you eat, energized, clearer, and more focused? Now that I have been process, sugar, wheat, and caffeine free for 6 weeks I have never felt better. I have even taken this theme of become more mindful in other aspects of my life.
