BEGINNER BARRE – Yes you can!

The biggest FAQ I hear is “Can I do this? I am beginner, and I have never done barre. And actually, I really don’t work out much!” First of all, everybody is a beginner at some point and until you take at least 6-8 classes, we consider you a beginner. Then at that point, you might start to understand what we are really talking about in class, a “tuck” “a curl” all these small isometric movements. What are they exactly?  How are these small movements going to make a difference?  I created Mind Over Matter Method (M3), a signature barre technique just for women, for what our bodies need. As women, we need some more strength and more flexibility, no matter what age or fitness level. All the exercises have a deliberate purpose and when completed with the utmost control and power of the mind, the body will follow suit and create change, all good change. But back to our FAQ. Yes. You can do this. M3 is modifiable. For example. You will see a plank in every class.  Planks are a very challenging, total body workout. It challenges the upper body, the legs, the core, all the way from the top of the head to the toes. Form must be perfect. If plank is not performed perfectly in the full position, you must modify to prevent injury.  Here are  different versions of the plank.  Use this as a guideline for your next class.

Please know that at any time throughout a plank series, you may always come down to modify or even come to a child’s pose and rest. Now that you have this information, please use it. I am also happy to announce that we have a NEW BEGINNER BARRE class starting this week. One will be on Fridays from 12-12:45 (EXPRESS LUNCH HOUR) and the second will be Saturdays at 9:45 with childcare provided.   This class will show you all the modifications, so if you are brand new, out of shape, new to barre, pregnant or recovering from an injury, this is the class for you. The goal would be to take the class, learn what you need to and move onto a mixed level when you feel ready. Remember, we are here to help you be your better self at the barre + beyond.  The first step is to come try a class.
