Bringing Mind Into Movement

I am very excited about summer but not why you are excited about summer. For me , it means summer projects! You have seen our new summer intern at the studio. Ms. Gabby, who just started with us, comes from Purdue University. She is with us for a few months to learn the ins and outs of the fitness business industry.  Working with her advisor and professors, we came up with a summer project; and this summer project is what I am excited about!!  Revamping and updating our Instructor Manual.  For the past two years we’ve been fortunate to have amazing young ladies come through our doors learn about the business , and each year they bring a new level of excitement to what I do for a living.  This year, we are getting into the training of the trademarked technique of Mind Over Matter Method; the method created over five years ago and refining the word choices, understanding and bringing our instructors’ knowledge up to today’s standards.

Every time I train another instructor, it reminds me to get back to basics. I took our beautiful Instructor Calla’s class this morning and realized again and again, no need for a fancy class but the basics, such as a hold in a chair will do just the trick!  Thank you Calla for the reminder!  So I urge you, whether you are a barre VIP or brand new, know that the hold is the challenge. Being completely still and using your own muscles to control your movement is the hardest part of barre. I challenge you to take a beginner class this week, this month, this summer.  I challenge you to close your eyes and focus on what muscle you are engaging in that last plank of the day.

This weekend, our beginner series is a Pilates class. Come try it. It truly is such a  treasure that we have Instructor Salena, come teach us Pilates.  It is a class for all fitness levels.   So just because you don’t think you’re a beginner doesn’t mean he should not take this class. I urge all of our VIPs to come take this class and I bet you will learn something from it! And if you are brand new, come too. It is always a good idea to get back to basics; slow it down and bring your mind into movement.
