I cannot believe that the summer and our Burn at the Barre Challenge is half over!! Well, let me rephrase that,  we have half the summer and half of Burn at the Barre left!  So let’s make the most of it! Personally, every week posed a challenge thus far; with different camps, vacations, and routine doctor appointments.   It is has been difficult to maintain any sort of routine or schedule. I’m trying to find time to balance life at home, work and exercise. I know I am not the only one, right?

So I decided to ask those who have already completed  24 class challenge about how they stayed committed despite travel and vacations, fun and family and all the beautiful things summer brings.  Congratulations again to Courtney, Julie, Kelly, Melanie, Nicole, Barbara, Faith, Sonia, Elle and Abby! Great work ladies and keep it up!
Here are select answers from some of those who already completed the first part of the challenge;
1. Why did you decide to take on the Burn at the Barre Challenge?
Kelly: “To be perfectly honest, I decided to take on the challenge because I love a good deal. If it is something that I really enjoy (e.g. M.O.M.s), I can’t pass any deal up! This is also a great challenge to undertake, it is challenging yet the goals are definitely attainable. I love that there are a variety of classes to choose from, which definitely helps when you are trying to get a lot of classes in. Burn at the Barre is great because it really asks you to step it up to get a good number of classes done. With both parts of the challenge, it is such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment once either part is done.”
Courtney: ” I was planning on coming anyway so it was a good value. Plus, there is something about star stickers on poster board.”
Faith: ” I decided to do burn at the barre because I knew if I signed up that I would come to more classes.  Also, earning the money after hitting 24 classes was an added bonus”
Barbara: “I decided to take on the Burn at the Barre Challenge to keep up with strengthening and stretching (something I have always neglected) and to improve my running form and stamina throughout the summer (it’s working!!)”
2. What obstacles did you face along the way so far?
Kelly: “The biggest obstacles I found was trying to get the first part of the challenge accomplished quickly. We have a few vacations this year, in addition to many summer plans and I wanted to make sure I could get it all in. Some days, I just wasn’t feeling it, but since I was already signed up, I’d end up going and felt so wonderful afterword that I couldn’t believe I almost didn’t go.”
Courtney: “Turning 40 while my 35 year old instructor and classmates talk about how they’re old:)”
Melanie: “Finding the time out of my day, but the flexible class hours made it easier.”
Barbara: “I have not faced any obstacles along the way, unless you want to consider a torn meniscus an “obstacle!”  Your schedule seems to have something for me, any time I want it.”
3. What motivates you every day to come to class?
Kelly: “I am motivated to come to class every day that I can because I love how I feel afterward. It is not just a fabulous entire body workout, but is mental too. It is such a feeling of accomplishment to have a great workout done in such a little amount of time (time flies when you are having fun!). I have lost weight (25lbs and counting, woohoo!) and I am motivated to stay toned and keep the weight off. Going to class also motivates me in other aspects of my life. I think about what I am eating and drinking and pay attention to how I feel after I eat certain foods. We don’t eat fast food anymore!”
Courtney: “I decided my health and well being are a priority and that means class is a priority.  I’m also 40 with a 2 and 3 year old. I want to be able to keep up with my children.”
Faith: “When I workout in the morning it really sets the tone for the rest of the day- I feel better about myself and I am more likely to make healthier decisions the rest of the day. Also, it is a great group of ladies that I enjoy seeing when I come to class.”
4. What do you you hope to achieve by the end of the challenge?
Kelly: “By the end of the Burn at the Barre I hope to continue feeling great, developing leaner muscles, and have more stamina. Each class I take, I pick something to work on specific to that day and how I am feeling. Maybe it is powering through all of chair, getting through all the pushups without resting, working on improving my form in core exercises. Every little bit plays into the bigger picture and I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish at the end of Burn at the Barre”
Faith: “I hope to be stronger and more toned”
Courtney: ” I’m focusing on form and flexibility right now so improvements there.”
Melanie: “Just maintain strength and I’m always striving to be more flexible.”
Barbara: “By the end of the challenge, I hope I am more flexible, able to do challenging stretches on my own if I’m not in a MOMS stretch class and, of course, I hope I am a stronger and better runner.”
5. Anything you would like to add, especially to those who are new to barre..
Melanie: “The class never gets easier but the person gets stronger.”
Barbara: “If you just look in the studio window or check out the static photos on Facebook, you will have no idea what Barre is all about.  Barre is not ballet.  3# weights are not wimpy.  And sitting with your back to the wall while lifting a leg is not part of “rest time.”  This technique is challenging beyond imagination, and I believe one has to experience this … even just one class … to understand how effective and difficult this type of exercise is.”
Thank you ladies for your time and commitment to health and wellness. I love hearing from you and I know everyone else does too.
To all of you out there like me, struggling to make time for yourself, its ok and we have half the summer left to make it happen. Set your goals. I would love to see all your smiling faces!
All M.O.M.s Love,
Orlee
