Ready to Set Clear Goals

notebookWe spent time with our families. We ate. We drank. We indulged. We veered from our regular routine. We had a blast. It’s a new year; and it’s time to set goals; set resolutions; make a change for the better. We talk about New Year Resolutions and we set them but they don’t always stick to them. Let’s be realistic. Here is Orlee’s way to set realistic exceptions, goals and resolutions. Remember, we are human. So veering from your list is okay and you may need to do this exercise more than one time in the year. But for now, go ahead and take out a piece of paper.  Sit down at an empty table. Take your pen and begin.
1. Reflect on all of 2015. What are the things that you accomplished? Write down the things you are proud of. One personal. One family. One work-related.
2. Write down what you are not proud of and what you would like to do better. Again, one personal. One family. One work-related.
3. Everything you did well in 2015, try to maintain that this year. Write down, “I will continue to…”

4. Now right down one thing that you will do better. But for that thing, make this first sentence vague, like “I will get into a regular exercise routine.”

5. Now we need some specifics. Don’t say that you will work out every day if you haven’t worked out at all last year. Let’s be realistic. Be specific. For example, “I will take the 6pm class Tuesday and Thursday and 8:30 Saturday morning. Every other week, I will take the 9:45 stretch.” write down a schedule. Make it something that is doable and nothing that interferes with what you are proud of in 2015.

Take this piece of paper. Read it out loud. Read it to someone special who supports you. Or if you need someone; read it to me. I am here to help you reach your fitness goals, personal goals. I am not a trained goal coach, but I am a good listener.

Then take your paper and put it up on your mirror in your bathroom. Look at it over every day when you brush your teeth.

Need help with this exercise. Come talk to me, Friday, tomorrow for our 6pm class plus goal setting, healthy eating and of course a little wine and healthy snacks for our chance to open up!

Cheers! at the barre and beyond!
