Mind Over Matter Minute Plank
Mind Over Matter. It is on our wall in the studio. It is the name of the barre method at our studio, Barre+ Beyond. So what does “mind over matter “mean to you? Today we had a super fun, “Wacky Wednesday Class” with our fabulous Rachel Lauer. After much burning, shaking, complaining and laughing, it was time for our mind over matter minute plank; the plank that pulls together all the strength we can summon and do something that we may not think we can do. Today, jokingly, Rachel said “OK. Let’s get ready for 4 minutes of planking!” Well, a few took that literally and held their plank for as long as they could. My body is so ready after one minute that at the minute mark, I was done. I wasn’t mentally there but if I tried, I bet I could do it. But many of our ladies went for it! Heather, Gretchen, June, Emily, Suzanne, to name a few ladies that impressed me with their strength. But here is the thing, it is not just physical strength. Our ladies are strong not only physically but also mentally. Doing a 4 minute plank is mental. It takes focus. It takes a positive attitude. I love all the ladies that walk in through the door. You walk in, try a class, find your weaknesses and embrace them! You go for it. All our ladies work hard to get better every day. We cheer each other on and realize that taking this one hour for ourselves is worth it. We deserve it. We may have a laundry list of things to do, but the reality is, we deserve to take one hour to better ourselves; to challenge ourselves; and encourage each other. So if you ever have self doubt; know that I want you to put it away. You are worth it. You are strong. You are beautiful. I love our studio, and I thank you all for making it the best studio I could hope for. So next time we get to mind over matter minute plank, find that perfect set up; the perfect form, the breath and of course the mental attitude. Congrats to all the ladies that went for it today! You are all awesome!!
