CORE, CORE and More CORE!

2015-07-17 04.06.33Mid-summer + mid-Burn at the Barre = All mid-section! Last week, we devoted the whole week to core strength, a central part of all of barre work. Our week started with a workshop using those big blue balls in our equipment room. In the workshop, we explored all uses of the stability balls and found that 90% of its use is for core strength. During our upper c-curve set, the ball made us feel the deepest layers of our core. We added the ball to some of Salena’s famous Pilates moves that got us to delve even deeper and required total body strength to perform.  Overall, adding the Stability Ball to our Barre work was just a perfect match to feel the barre burn and aid us in our core work.  With that said, we had 80% of you interested in having a Barre & Stability Ball class added to our schedule.  So, you want it and we will add it! But here is the deal, there are only 6 Balls in the equipment room. Some of you have one at home and we would ask you to bring it to class; BYOB Bring Your Own Ball or you can borrow ours for a minimal charge of $2. We may even sell these balls in the studio so you can always bring your own.  It will be fun and perfect core addition to Mind Over Matter Studio. More information to come.

Our standard Barre class took an extra focus on core work and boy, did we feel it. Overall it was a huge success and in our survey we heard all about what people loved about core week. Here are some of the responses:

“I loved focusing on my abs. I truly felt stronger because I tried to contract my abs throughout the day”.

“I enjoyed the focus on one area, but still touching on the rest of the areas of the body. It was nice to know what the focus/goal for the day was besides getting a good workout in.”

“I was only able to attend one class during CORE week but it was great. I was very sore the next day but it felt good to use all those muscles.”

“Everything! I learned a lot and was worked hard!”

“Loved the extra focus on abs and think doing this more often would be beneficial to my workout! Maybe every month or even every other week!”

“Core is the foundation strength for the rest of our bodies, so loved that we worked core. Bring more core!”

“Good way to cover the basics.”

“Amazing”

“Everyday the hurt!! Really helped me focus on proper positioning”

“Loved it! Would love to do more abs.”

“Loved both Orlee’s and Elizabeth’s CHALLENGING classes … but then again, I always like their classes!”

“LOVED IT!! Everyone needs extra core work!!:)”

“I knew where our focus was going to be.”

“Ouch. I still hurt!”

And then of course we love our social media and someone requested “butt week”. Well, guess what?  At the end of burn at the barre, we will focus on our bums! We will start the week with a Basics Workshop on August 22nd and End if with an Interval Workshop on August 29th; both focusing on Seat Work. In the middle, we will have a fabulous Ladies Night Out, scheduled for Thursday 7-9 August 27th, Ladies Night at the Barre Flyer
