Mood Over Matter- 5 Things to Improve Your mood

We always say Mind Over Matter. What does that mean to you? Take a second and think about what it means to you. The dictionary definition is to use willpower to overcome obstacles.

Mind Over Matter is the biggest part of our studio and our workout and that mantra is the one we strive to  carry into our every day life.  Now if we change the word “mind” to “mood” we get “Mood Over Matter”; using our mood, our outlook and even just our smiles to overcome obstacles. So here are five things that can change your mood to conquer those obstacles.

 

  1. Smile.  I cannot tell you how much smiling and a positive mood affects our lives. Just turning that frown upside down will make a difference!  Have you ever looked at someone smiling and started to smile back? Today is the day to try.
  2. Stop thinking and just do.   I look at the kids during Kids at the Barre and they are just having a blast! They are not worrying about anything. They are not thinking about what happened an hour ago and not thinking about what will/could happen; they just do it now!
  3. Find gratitude. When you need to change your mood around, find something to be thankful for. There is always something!!
  4. Choose positive words. If a word has a negative connotation find a word that has a positive one.  Like YES, I CAN!
  5. Lastly, Breathe. During any stressful or “moody” time, take a few deep breaths and you feel better to change your mood to help overcome anything!
