Write It Down

One of my summer projects is to go through my daughter’s school work from the year. She is only in kindergarten, but so far, I’ve kept everything! Yes, everything! Not sure why, but I have been hording and now we get to go through every single paper she has brought home in her blue folder. We sort through what she did not finish, and our goal is to work on it this summer. But besides, these sheets of paper and of course summer reading, our other goal is to continue her journal writing; not only for her but also for me. Writing things down has a unique power. You can call it what you want, journal writing, keeping a diary or just writing. It doesn’t have to be fancy, grammatically correct or full sentences. It just need to be you.   Writing is a gift to ourselves. It makes us think. It helps to establish and therefore formalize a thought into something deeper. Writing helps us see the big picture and helps us see things clearly. Writing helps us be who we are with no judgment.

“Writing helps us be who we are with no judgment.”

This week I didn’t have a “Work-it Wednesday” tidbit and didn’t feel motivated to find something barre or studio related to discuss, so instead I am writing as if I were writing in a journal. I had picked up a leather journal a while back at Barnes and Noble and on the cover it says “Be Brave. Take Chances. Experience Everything. Make it Happen.” It’s a perfect cover page for me, and the beginning of my journal writing for the summer.

“…on the cover it says “Be Brave. Take chances. Experience everything. Make it Happen.”

So as of now, I don’t have more to inspire or motivate but just this quote on my journal. If you take anything from this rambling of mine, take away “Just Write”. Just write “it” down. I don’t even know what the “it” is. The “it” can be goals; your feelings; your mood; what you did that day; what you ate; what you wore; who you called on the phone today, not just a text message or tweet. Whatever “it” is, just write it down. And I think by writing it down we are “brave” “taking chances’ “experiencing everything” and thus “making it happen” On that note, happy writing. Just “Be your better self” today and everyday. And it will happen!
